Hardware Deep Dive
The IonQ Forte Enterprise is the first generation of IonQ's data center-deployable quantum computers. Unlike the cloud-only Forte, the Enterprise edition is built on a standard rack-mount form factor with lower energy consumption and environmental isolation requirements, designed to slot directly into modern data center infrastructure. It shares the same core AOD-based trapped-ion architecture as Forte, delivering identical #AQ 36 performance in an on-premises deployable package.

Common Provider Questions
What makes Forte Enterprise different from Forte?
The core trapped-ion engine is functionally identical, both deliver #AQ 36 performance using the same AOD laser routing system. The key difference is form factor and deployment model. Forte Enterprise is engineered specifically for rack-mounted data center installation, with reduced environmental isolation requirements and lower power consumption compared to a typical research lab QPU setup. This makes it the first IonQ system designed for production hybrid compute environments.
What does #AQ 36 mean for my workloads?
Algorithmic Qubits (#AQ) measure the real-world utility of a QPU. At #AQ 36, the Forte Enterprise can execute complex computational circuits up to 36 qubits wide and approximately 980 entangling gates deep. This translates to a computational state space of over 68 billion simultaneous possibilities, making it viable for advanced optimization, quantum chemistry, and machine learning workloads.
Where is the Forte Enterprise physically located?
IonQ operates Forte Enterprise systems across a growing global data center footprint. Current confirmed locations include the Washington D.C. area, Seattle (Washington), and Basel (Switzerland), the latter marking IonQ's first European quantum computer deployment in partnership with QuantumBasel. Jobs submitted via IonQ Quantum Cloud or AWS Braket are routed to whichever node is available.
Why does the Forte Enterprise go offline?
Like all trapped-ion systems, the Forte Enterprise requires periodic calibration cycles to maintain its high gate fidelity. The AOD laser steering system must be meticulous re-tuned against environmental drift. Offline windows on our dashboard almost always correspond to these scheduled maintenance periods rather than unplanned hardware failures.
